Hello 2020.
A new decade is upon us.
A continued journey in this so called thing called life.
I’ve never been one for resolutions, but always hopeful for things that maybe I wouldn’t be able to control fully. But I’m not gonna have that outlook this year. I’m gonna focus on me. And my health. Get back on track, and hope to stay on track.
I know what it takes to be healthy, but don’t always listen to myself. I want to listen to myself, for my health. To take care of my body as much as I can. Cliche, maybe, to start a fitness/health journey on January 1st, but hey, it’s a fresh start, right?!
This past year my dad’s family have gone through genetic testing, and I tested positive for a genetic mutation for breast cancer. It doubles my risk for the “normal” average. Knowing this is helpful, because there are more preventative measures I can go through. But still scary, and fully of fear and anxiety. If you don’t know me, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer 5 1/2 years ago. She is now fully in remission, which is GREAT. She also had genetic testing, and she came back clean, but knowing that she had sporadic breast cancer can make my mind wonder. What I need to focus on is what I can do. I can be better about what I put in my body. What I do with my body. And what I put on my body.
EXERCISE

These last few years have been hectic with starting grad school, working, internships, starting new jobs, and moving. I’ve started routines, finished, gotten off track, gotten back on, and then off again. Which is fine, but I wanted to focus on creating a more normal routine.
GOALS:
- Do two rounds of 21 day fix to start off the year
- Get 10,000 steps a day
- Lose 30-40 pounds
Today, be the badass girl you were too lazy to be yesterday.

I’ve had great success with 21 day fix in the past. I feel like it has been the best thing to get me back into a routine. But working out everyday is a lot, and I don’t feel like I’ll be able to keep that up the entire year (see habits).
10,000 steps is a great amount. Doctor recommended for heart health? Sure?
Getting personal, but my weight fluctuates more than I would like to admit. And it’s not honestly about the weight. It’s knowing that I gain it because of unhealthy eating habits and not working out at all. I feel like I lose and gain the same weight over and over, but would love to lose and maintain.
HABITS

Going off the goals for exercise. Habits are something that coincide.
GOALS:
- Focus on mindful and healthy eating
- Once I get back on track with 21 day fix, focusing on exercising 4 days a week
- Focus on saving money for an eventual new car, and actively think of my spending habits
Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day.
Jim Rohn
Part of being healthy, is eating healthy. Eating all veggies, fruits, and having a balanced diet (darn you air fryer and tator tots being so tasty, but I can’t eat you every meal). Drinking water. 21 day fix has helped in the past to help me eat more veggies, but I would like to focus on mindful eating, as well.
Exercising every day is exhausting, and once I complete 2 rounds of 21 day fix, I would like to focus on exercising 4 days a week. I feel like it’s manageable.
I like to shop, hence the fashion blog, but I need to reign that in and save for practical things, like an eventual new car. I would like to focus on what I have in my closet.
FINANCES

Creating new habits to save money is big!
GOALS:
- I would like to save for a new car
- I would like to save more for another BIG trip
A penny saved is a penny earned.
Benjamin Franklin
As I was mentioned in my Habits section, I need to change my spending habits to save for a new car. My car is 10 years old, and I hope to have a few more years out of it, but want to make sure if something does happen, I’m set (I swear something happens every year that I have to put more money into my car).
I have travel fever, but don’t feel like I’ll be able to go on another BIG trip like I went on in May 2019 to Europe. I’m hoping for something big in 2021. I have so many places I would like to go to. Australia/New Zealand is definitely on my list, but that may need to be apart of my 10 year plan. Maybe 2030?! I would love to go to every continent (except Antarctica, unless I win the lottery or something). Some top destinations.
North America
- Canada (I’m from Michigan, and have never been)
- Mexico
Asia
- Bali
- Israel
- Maldives
- Vietnam
South America
- Peru
Africa
- Morocco
- Egypt
Oceania & Australia
- Australia
- New Zealand
- Fiji
Europe
- Greece
- Italy (again)
- Switzerland (again)
- Portugal
- Spain
- Ireland
- Iceland
- Poland
- Lithuania
- Croatia
- Sweden
- Finland
- Norway
- Germany
TRAVEL

Even though I do not forsee a BIG trip in 2020, that does not mean I do not want to stay put! There are so many places within the States that I have not been, and would love to go to!
GOALS:
- I would like to visit 3 new places (i.e. States, or Cities)
- Visit a new MLB ballpark
The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.
Saint Augustine
I still have so many States I have not seen. California, Colorado, Washington (I’ve never been to the west coast). I’ve also never been to an ocean (setting my feet in salt water sounds enticing). Even within Michigan, so much to explore in the U.P.
One thing on my bucket list is to visit all 30 ballparks. I’ve only been to 4 MLB team’s ballparks (Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, and Chicago White Sox). So plenty to go, and so many opportunities! Would be even better if I was seeing my Tigers play while visiting, too!
SELF-CARE

I do feel like I’ve gotten good at utilizing self-care, but it’s always good to have it on my list to continue! Some things I do already are:
- Baths – I do almost daily
- Blog writing (hello)
- Exercise (trying to get better at)
- Music
- Reading
- TV
There’s so much more, but these are certainly my go to’s.
Nourishing yourself in a way that helps you blossom in the direction you want to go is attainable, and you are worth the effort.
